Gingerbread Cookies are great when they are homemade as they make your house smell wonderful! They are my favorite Christmas Cookies to make, because everyone always enjoys them and they are also fun to decorate. This time, I made Christmas tree gingerbread cookies and crinkled edged squares. They are decorated festively with red, green and white royal icing.
I usually package them in cute boxes if I am giving them away to families with children. For couples or those who are single, I usually give them a pair of cookies in a clear bag tied with pretty ribbon.

Insurance can be pricey whether it is for your car, home or travel. However, getting the best price and services when it comes to insurance can be easy using Insurance Hunter. In our household, it is one of the bigger items to pay for and we try to put funds aside to pay for it. We often budget for when the hone and Auto Insurance bill comes around.
When my sister was moving into her new house, she wanted to shop around for a new insurance provider. I helped her by using insurance hunter to get Car Insurance quotes as well as a home insurance quote. Insurance Hunter is an online insurance brokerage which provides free access to home, auto and travel insurance quotes from the top insurance companies in Ontario. The process of getting the actual quotes was so simple. All that needed to be done was to answer a questionnaire and then instantly receive the best insurance quotes available for the coverage that I selected. You can then select the option best for you and make the purchase right then and there!
I love that Insurance Hunter saves time and money while being so efficient at the same time. I also was able to get a quote at a time that was convenient for me, because it is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you're looking to save money on a Car Insurance plan, check it out for yourself and save some time and money!

A couple of weeks ago, the Aviva Community Fund Charity Contest started. It is now time for the second qualifying round and it is so easy to cast your vote! First, a quick recap about what the contest is all about. The Aviva Community fund helps give the chance to those with ideas on how to improve their community an oppourtunity to do so. Those who have submitted their ideas on how they can improve their community enter the contest and try to gain as many votes as possible in order to win the funds to turn their idea into reality. It is personally important to me, because I know our own community is in need of reading programs as well as more donations for the food bank.
Anyone in Canada, registered on the Aviva Community Fund website can vote. Once you have registered simply sign in and click on the "Vote now" button on the idea you like most. You can also vote directly through their Facebook voting app, which can be found here Facebook.com/AvivaCommunityFund.
During each of the qualifying rounds and the Semi-Final phases of the competition, voting will take place. You are allowed to vote up to 15 times during each of the 3 initial rounds and 15 more times during the Semi-Finals. Each idea can only be voted for once a day, but you can vote for as many ideas as you would like. Keep in mind that you have only 15 votes and once a vote has been cast, it cannot be changed.

This year's Aviva Community Fund charity contest has started, so now is the chance to potentially make any ideas or plans to improve your community a reality. The first qualifying round runs from October 1st to October 15th, while the 2nd qualifying round starts on October 22nd and ends November 5th, 2012.
The Aviva Community Fund is important to me, because every community can use a helping hand including the one I live in. Our food bank is always low on food, yet high in demand. I always hear more about people donating food during the holidays, but food donations are needed year round. It is my favorite community oriented cause, because without food, it is impossible to survive.
The Aviva Community Fund competition offers Canadians $1,000,000 to lead, empower and support community initiatives across the country. By submitting your idea and rallying support from everyone that you know, positive things can happen. Whether you have a small or really big idea to improve your community, Aviva can potentially fund it. They will fund a minimum of one Small Idea (up to $50K), one Medium Idea ($50K - $100K), and one Large Idea ($100K - $150K). Ideas should be self-contained, without needing other pooled funds.
Whether your idea is to gain more support for the local food bank, open a new shelter or something else altogether, the sky is the limit.
To submit your idea, visit the Aviva Community Fund, Click on "Submit Your Idea Now" and follow the instructions.
To be eligible, your idea must:
-Create change that positively impacts your community
-Your idea should be completed or well underway before Dec. 31, 2013
- Written in either English or French
-Be able to implement using $150,000 or less.
- Only ideas that will be implemented within a Canadian community will be funded.
-You must not be an Aviva employee or immediate family member (spouse, child, parent, or sibling, regardless of where they live) of an Aviva employee.
-You do not have any preferential relationship with Aviva plc or Aviva as determined by the sole discretion of Aviva.
-You are a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
-You have approval by a parent or guardian, if under the age of 18.
-You are not a judge or immediate family member (spouse, child, parent or sibling, regardless of where they live) of a judge participating in the Aviva Community Fund competition.
-You are not an employee or immediate family member (spouse, child, parent or sibling, regardless of where they live) of any promotion or development partners of Aviva involved with the Aviva Community Fund.

As a new parent, my sister wanted to make sure she had everything for her baby. Baby registries lead you to believe that you should get everything for your baby. Only after she had my baby did she realize it's like buying a new home or car, you want it all right away, but you don't really NEED it right away or even at all. So she learned that just the essentials (ie. diapers, wipes, milk, some clothing) were all she needed to keep her baby content.
Things like: a Jolly Jumper, exersaucer, playard/playpen, Bumbo chair, bouncy chair, swing, high chair, even shoes, were extras. And a lot of those things are nice to have, but not must haves. What she did to save some money was borrow some of the bigger ticket items, look for sales, buy some gently used items, and even look on the local free cycle. It's amazing what you can get for a fraction of the cost! I know my parents didn't have that luxury when I was growing up! So to all of those soon-to-be parents, don't worry if you don't have it all, because your baby goes through stages and doesn't need much to be amused!

I made this pretty zebra cake for my daughter's birthday. She wanted a zebra birthday cake and I had no idea where I would find a zebra cake topper.
I thought of making an icing zebra or a fondant zebra, but didn't have time to attempt something that was so foreign to me, so stuck with what I know. Paper products! Lol. I used my Cricut Expression Machine along with the Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge to cut out the shape of the zebra. I cut one zebra out of white cardstock and used hot pink cardstock for the second zebra. I cut the stripes out of the white one and placed it on top of the pink zebra to create the two tone layered look.
I taped popsicle sticks to the bottom of each of the legs (in between the white and pink zebras) so the sticks wouldn`t show too much. Then I was able to insert the popsicle sticks with zebra onto the top of the cake! I decided to make the zebra even more girly by tying a little bow out of matching pink ribbon and used a Mini Glue Dot to place it atop the zebra.
It also took quite a while to make the yellow cake with buttercream frosting, but it was worth it!

Ruffle curtains are the all the rage and a personal crush of mine for the last year. Anthropologie and Land of Nod both offer exquisite ruffle curtains for around, I don’t know, $100+ which to me is outrageous! And begging for a cute knockoff.
This curtain was surprisingly easy to do after you get the hang of “ruffling” fabric. The easiest possible way would have to be using a ruffle foot, but since I don’t have one I had to ruffle by hand.
For this curtain I used two flat full size sheets in a solid color, make sure that they are flat sheets and not fitted ones, which would be a little too difficult to work with.
I cut the sheets into strips that were 4 inches wide and the length of the sheet.
To ruffle stitch along your fabric ½" in from the edge (for seam allowance). Leave at least 4" tails when you cut your top and bobbin thread. Unlike when you make a regular seam, when you make the ruffle stitch it is very important that you DO NOT BACK TACK.
Now, stitch another row about ¼" in from the fabric edge. Make sure to leave long tails when you cut your thread. Now you have two parallel rows of a long straight stitch. (I always make two rows incase one of the threads break)
At an end of the fabric you need to tie the upper and lower threads together into a knot.
At the other end of the fabric tug very gently on the two threads that are on top. The fabric will slide along these threads creating ruffles. Keep pulling, playing with the ruffle spacing as you go. After it is ruffled tie a knot in the other loose threads.
So this part is a little time consuming, but completely worth it!
So I lazed out at this point and layer the other untouched sheet down on the floor, and took a nap. After I got up and drank some coffee, I pined the ruffles down trying to keep even spacing. Pin the ones on the bottom first and work your way up.
From this point you simply sew the ruffles down row by row.
I sewed loops to hang the curtain up with extra fabric, and voila beautiful ruffle curtain!

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.
The effort of Walgreens to continue being a part of the Express Scripts pharmacy provider has been to no avail. Walgreens pharmacy patients are now forced to use their in-network pharmacy benefits elsewhere.
Walgreens offered to hold rates for a new contract flat and did not want to increase rates. However, Express Scripts insisted on being able to unilaterally define contract terms, such as what does and does not constitute a brand and generic drug. Another reason why they were not able to agree on terms was because, Express Scripts also proposed to slash Walgreens reimbursement rates to levels below the industry average cost to provide each prescription. This would cause an increase in rates for patients, while Walgreens wants to keep costs lower for patients.
Since Walgreens and Express Scripts are no longer working together, this means that those patients with prescription insurance plans managed by Express Scripts may have to get their prescriptions filled at pharmacies, not nearly as convenient as Walgreens. Using Walgreens to fill prescriptions is by far more convenient than going elsewhere, considering they offer at some locations, 24-hour and drive through pharmacies. Fortunately, those who belong to insurance plans that are not managed by Express Scripts will not be affected.
In order to minimize this disruption, the annual membership for the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens is being discounted for the month of January. An individual can join for just $5 and for a family membership, it only costs $10. With the membership, patients can save on more than 8,000 brand name and all generic medications. More than 400 generics are available with a three-month supply for less than $1 a week. Regular annual membership is $20 for an individual and $35 for a family.
